Sigma Onyx Easy Heart-Rate Monitor/Watch

So for fitness ed class, we had to purchase a Sigma heart rate monitor/watch. I was pretty excited when I got it, thinking it would benefit me for track practices as well. Well, I was playing with the watch the other day and it seems like a great tool but you have to wear a chest strap to get a heart rate reading. These chest straps can be uncomfortable to wear especially when I am practicing for track. Also, the stopwatch on the watch doesn't read hundredths or thousandths of a second so it doesn't benefit me when I am doing a speed workout on the track. The watch is more suitable for distance runners. Overall, the Sigma heart rate monitor is a great tool but lacks my needs for track and field.

Slippery Rock University - On/Off Campus Housing

Living on campus for 2 years has been a wonderful experience with meeting new people, getting
acquainted to the campus, and adjusting to living on your own. I really don't know where I am going to live next year but my friends and I are discussing about it. Living on-campus is really expensive compared to the off-campus rates. The Rock Apartments seem like a nice choice, being close to campus and $2,548 a semester. That is about $570 a month, considering we are in school about 9 months out of the year. Another choice was the Ivy, which was about a 2-minute drive from the campus. The Ivy includes 2-4 bedroom fully-furnished apartments including utilities for $510-550 a month. Still, a little less expensive than the Rock Apartments but it includes larger bedrooms and better furniture and upgraded cable. Looking at other apartments, we found the Heights. The Heights are beautiful condo apartments with large rooms, beautiful furniture, and includes all utilities except for water and electricity. The price is $425 a month, not taking into consideration the water and electric bill. In the end, shopping for an apartment can be a stressful time, but with careful planning and researching, people will make the right choice and be happy with their apartment at Slippery Rock.

Students who live on campus

This is my second year at the rock and also my second year staying in the residential dorms. From what I've notice in my time here is that a lot of students who live on campus do not like staying at Slippery Rock on the weekends. By 6pm, Friday, this place is cleared out and it shouldn't be that way. I know many freshmen get homesick but when a lot of people go home, it is like a domino effect. One person goes and another and before you know it, everyone is going home. I think one of the reasons for that is because there is not much for entertainment at Slippery Rock. We have Main Street and that is basically it. I believe that the university should come up with entertaining events so that people would stay on the weekends. With tight budget and spending, I don't think that will ever happen. Someone told me once, "Slippery Rock should just be a commuter's college since no one stays on the weekends."

Slippery Rock University

Being a second year student at Slippery Rock, I believe that the University should use some of their money in remodeling some of the buildings on campus. Buildings such as Spotts World Culture and Eisenberg Classroom really can use it. They look out of date. In addition, I believe that the field house should be remodeled with a new indoor track. Being a track and filed athlete, running on that surface that they currently have is awful. We hold track meets here and our surface is known to be poor and slow. We can't even wear track spikes on that surface so why even have track meets on it. I've been to Kent State University and they have an outstanding field house with a 300m Mondo-surface track and a indoor football field. With that said, I think it would be nice to see some of the structures updated on Slippery Rock's campus.
